A new retail gas player for Leamington

South West Fuels, owner of Johnny’s Gas Bar in Leamington, is preparing to take to the ice! It is expanding and converting Johnny’s Gas Bar to Breakaway, a new hockey-themed gas station brand. This will be the first Breakaway gas outlet in Canada.

“We’ve been considering rebranding Johnny’s Gas Bar for some time, but it was only when we saw Breakaway that we decided to go ahead. The Breakaway concept has been developed by Greenergy, who have supplied our site for many years. We love the hockey look and feel, and we’re confident that the new branding and expanded facilities will improve our customers’ experience,” stated Saide Eid, Johnny’s Gas Bar.

Greenergy is a fast growing road fuel supplier in Ontario and has developed the Breakaway offer specifically for the Canadian market, supported by extensive market research. Breakaway combines a distinctive hockey-themed gas station design, with an extensive convenience offer, and high quality fuels that meet TOP TIERTM standards

“Our research shows Canadian consumers want more choice and more competition,” says Mike Healey, Greenergy Fuels Canada’s Chief Executive Officer. “Breakaway is different than other gas station brands available in the market, with a fun environment to fill up and shop while supporting the local community through Breakaway to Play™.”

Breakaway to Play™, a community investment program, will partner with local minor hockey associations to help minimize financial barriers to entry that prevent some families from getting involved in hockey. This is another reason why Saide Eid has chosen to move to Breakaway, “We’re especially excited about Breakaway’s strong commitment to supporting our local hockey community, because, where we do business, we call home.”

Breakaway’s extensive convenience offering is provided by Gateway Newstands, a premier North American small format convenience retailer.

The expanded site in Leamington will feature Breakaway’s distinctive hockey-themed forecourt with additional features including car wash, propane and a 24-hour cardlock. Breakaway’s unique hockey-theme carries over into the convenience store with a 1,700 sq. ft. shop including a range of fresh options and ‘grab and go’ items, as well as customer amenities such as an ATM, coffee and restroom.

Works on site have already begun and the new Breakaway gas station and convenience store will be completed in Fall 2018. The site will remain open during the construction phase. “We want to thank our customers for their patience over the coming months. We’re sure they’ll love Breakaway as much as we do,” said Saide Eid.

Greenergy will pilot the Breakaway brand in selected markets in Ontario over the next 12 months. Further dealer enquiries welcome.
